Hamad International Airport features a huge, environmentally friendly tropical indoor garden that brightens international air travel experiences. The Orchard at Hamad Airport is a calm, green spot to relax and rejuvenate between flights or upon arrival. Here’s how to find it and what you can do there.
Inside the Orchard
The Orchard in Hamad Airport is a 6,000-square-meter plot holding over 25,000 plants, all under a naturally lit roof. Also known as the Garden, its water features contribute to the tropical feel, and the eco-friendly design guarantees over 30% energy efficiency. All trees and plants are sourced from sustainable forests globally. Orchard’s roof maximizes the absorption of natural lighting, providing superb visibility and regulating temperature. Most importantly, the area has a premium global energy standard — it earned a LEED Gold certification.
The HIA Orchard is located in the duty-free North Node, at the end of Terminal C, approximately a 10–15-minute walk from Terminals A and B.
If you don’t want to go on foot, you can also hop on the monorail connecting various HIA terminals, which has a stop directly at its entrance. It’s free for all passengers and open 24 hours a day.
The Garden offers ample space and features for customers to relax and re-energize after or before a long flight. You can stroll the walkways amongst trees and plants — there are several walking routes under the canopies for easy movement. Furthermore, you could sit back and relax next to the calming sounds of the waterfall and other water features spread across the area. If you have more time, read a book or watch a movie on the bench. The garden also has small tents — a convenient spot to meditate or catch a quick nap.
The natural lighting creates a picturesque setting to capture the best layover memories, especially for photography fans. Since the area is filled with unique plant and tree species, you can use plant identifier apps such as PictureThis and PlantNet to discover what’s around you — a fun way to make wait times feel shorter.
