Your health card is basically a golden ticket to affordable healthcare. Without it, you're looking at paying full price for every consultation, every blood test, and every prescription. If you don’t want to see those bills add up, it’s best apply for a health card renewal about a month before it expires. The process is different from that for a first-time application, so follow this step-by-step guide for health card renewal in Qatar to speed it up!
What is a health card
A health card is an official document issued to Qatar citizens and residents that grants access to public healthcare services. For most treatments, especially in non-emergicencies, there will still be fees, but reduced. Without this card, access to services will still be granted but not prioritized, and patients would have to pay in full.

On September 12, 2025, the Ministry of Public Health announced that Qatari citizens no longer have to obtain a health card. Their Qatar ID serves as proof of their coverage and grants access to healthcare services.
On the other hand, residents still need a physical health card and have to renew it annually. Here are the fees:

Health card expiry check: Step-by-step
Not sure when your card expires? You can check this online through Hukoomi, the official e-government portal.
The portal has a full Hukoomi health card expiry check section. Simply go to the Renew Health Card section and click on Check expiry.

The second method is via Nar'aakom. This is the official app of the Primary Health Care Corporation, the country's main public healthcare provider. A digital version of your health card will be stored in this app and can be scanned whenever you go to the doctor.
When you log in to the app, all the info, including the expiry date, will be displayed on the main page, below your name.

Hukoomi health card renewal
Is the expiration date nearing? Here’s how to renew your health card on the Hukoomi renewal portal.
1. Enter your ID number, choose Renew, and click on Next.

2. Fill out the required information and choose a method of receiving your receipt. Click on Next.

3. Confirm transaction details and click on Pay.

4. Choose your payment method and complete the transaction. Once the payment goes through, you'll see a confirmation screen.

For collection, you have two choices: a digital card, which is instant and available on the Nar'aakom app. Alternatively, you can pick up a plastic card at your assigned health center. It typically takes 3–5 working days to be printed.
Nar'aakom health card renewal
Unfortunately, you can’t renew your health card directly from the Nar'aakom app. But, in case it has expired, the app will display a note from PHCC asking you to renew it on the Hukoomi website.

Simply click Renew, and you’ll be redirected to Hukoomi. Follow the steps above to submit your application.
In-person health card renewal
Not tech-savvy, or maybe the website is glitching? You can renew your health card in person. Visit any PHCC Health Center or HMC Hospital. Most health centers handle administrative tasks like card renewal during earlier hours, usually between 7 AM and 2:00 PM. Bring:
-
Your Qatar ID (QID)
-
The old/expired health card
-
A credit or debit card (paying in cash isn’t available in most cases)
-
One passport-sized photo (4cm x 3cm): Usually unnecessary for renewals, but bring it just in case
How to check application status
In 99% of the cases, you’ll be able to instantly renew your health card, so no need for checking application status. However, if your digital card isn’t showing up in the app or you’re waiting for a physical copy for too long, you can check the status via the Hukoomi status portal. You just need your QID number to view it.
