Renewing a Qatar driving license is simple. While you can still do it the old-fashioned way and apply for renewal at the Traffic Department office, it’s much easier online using specialized digital platforms.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the entire process, explaining what to prepare before submitting your request, how to use digital services, the renewal cost, and the typical processing time.
Check Your Qatar Driving License Validity
You can renew your Qatar driving license up to six months before its expiration date. We recommend doing so in due time to avoid penalties. You should also apply for a new license if your previous one is lost or damaged. Please remember that in Qatar driving a mechanical vehicle without a valid license is prohibited.
Make sure to renew your license before the 30-day grace period expires. Otherwise, you may be required to pay a renewal fine. If you are caught driving with an expired license, you could face a fine of approximately 1,500 QR — it’s much more than you would pay for the renewal, and you still have to obtain a new license.
You can check the validity of your driving license anytime on the Ministry of Interior (MOI) site. Follow these simple steps:
1. Go to the «Inquiries» section in the main menu under «MOI Services», then click «Other Inquiries», followed by «Official Documents».
2. Enter your Qatar ID (QID) number and verification code.
3. Find the Driving License Expiry Date among the displayed information.
There are two ways to renew your driving license online: through the MOI e-Services or the Metrash2 mobile app. You can also renew it in person by visiting the Qatar Traffic Department. It’s up to you.
Don’t forget about car insurance
Before driving in Qatar, you must have valid Qatar car insurance for at least 12 months, whether it’s Third-Party Liability (TPL) or full coverage. Make sure to secure the required policy before getting behind the wheel. Explore QIC’s car insurance plans for dependable protection on Qatar’s roads.

You’ll need to prepare a few things before you apply for the license online.

To renew your Qatar driving license through Metrash2 follow these instructions:
1. Download the Metrash2 app and register using your QID.
2. Go to «Traffic», then «License Services», and select «Renew Driving License».
3. Enter your QID number.

1. Go to the MOI website, then navigate to «Inquiries» > «QPost Services» > «QPost Request Tracking».
2. Enter your QID number and verification code, then click «Submit».
If the details are correct, you will get QPost delivery status.
Renew Your Driving License by Visiting Qatar Traffic Department
If, for any reason, online renewal is not an option for you, you can visit the Traffic Department office, or book a ride there, to apply for license renewal in person. Office hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Traffic Department is located on Khalifa Street, Madinat Khalifa, Doha.
When you arrive, take a token at the reception and wait for your turn. Don’t forget to bring your current driving license. You will also need to pay a service fee for the renewal.
At the counter, the whole process usually takes just a few minutes. In a way, you can get a new license even faster than applying online since you don’t have to wait for delivery. However, you’ll still need to travel to the office and wait for your turn.
Fees for Driving License Renewal
-
Non-Qatari residents: 250 QR for a 5-year renewal
-
Qatari residents: 500 QR for a 10-year renewal
The fees remain the same whether you renew your license online or at the Traffic Department.
If you apply online, you can opt for QPost delivery for an additional 20 QR. Alternatively, you may collect your renewed license in person from the Traffic Department and not pay for the delivery.
