Web Summit Qatar, one of four regional offshoots of the global technology conference launched back in 2009, is coming to Doha for the second time. The event or rather dozens of different events, dedicated to venture capitalism, breakthrough technologies, and even the future of our planet, will take place on Feb 23-26 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).
Whether you’re interested in meeting one of the Reddit co-founders, learning about the next big thing (or two) in tech, uncovering the secrets of the international product leads, or striking the jackpot deal for your own project, Web Summit Qatar is likely the best occasion for any of it in the next twelve months. The 2024 edition was a huge success, attracting more than 15,000 people from 118 countries, and instantly raising more than $1.5 billion for the winners of its PITCH contest. This time the list of official partners features TikTok, Huawei, Meta, Microsoft, Snapchat, Mastercard, and dozens more, including regional champions such as QIC and Qatar Airways.
QIC at the Web Summit Qatar
Qatar Insurance Company, one of the country’s first corporations and a leader in digitalizing the national economy, is hosting its program at Web Summit Qatar. It will include dozens of workshops and panels, spread throughout all three days of the event, as well as its own networking zone for startups and investors. At the QIC Pavilion, the company executives and industry leaders will discuss emerging trends (think parametric insurance), new insurance products in MENA, investment strategies, and much more.
Whether you work in insurance or have a general interest in the digital transformation that QIC brings to the region, here are five events we genuinely recommend:
-
Innovating for Tomorrow: The Future of Insurance in a Digital-First World. Feb. 24, 10:30 AM

All the events mentioned will take place at the QIC Stage, occupying booth number 1212-02, right next to the Growth Lounge.

Most Brits believe cash will be obsolete in their country by 2030. Australian Commonwealth Bank predicts a shift to a cashless society as early as next year. In Qatar, only 23% of day-to-day payments are being made in bank notes. Are we that near to the brave new world of fully digitalized consumer finances? Hopefully Yasin Oral, a chief executive of the Turkish cryptocurrency exchange Pariby, will provide some answers.
