Winter in Qatar runs from November to March, and the change is noticeable almost straight away. Temperatures ease into a milder range, averaging 25°C (78°F) and cooler evenings can dip to around 14–18°C (57–64°F) — with temperatures sometimes dropping as low as 10 °C. Humidity drops, and the air feels lighter and less dense. The days feel different, cooler, more comfortable during midday, and easier to move through. 

Generally, the weather in Doha, as in Lusail and other cities, remains fairly consistent across the country.

Rain in Qatar is sporadic. It usually shows up during the cooler months, most often between December and February. A short burst, darker clouds for a moment, then sunshine comes back again. On average, Doha sees fewer than 10 rainy days a year, so you don't need to worry about it ruining your plans.

Sunshine, on the other hand, is constant. Depending on the season, Doha gets between 8 and 12 hours of sunlight a day. You won't be short of daylight no matter when you visit.

Not far away, Msheireb downtown, a modern neighbourhood, offers a nice contrast with its contemporary architecture and shaded walkways, where you can get lost and not be mad about it. 

During this season, café terraces and restaurant open-air seating come alive and fill up throughout the day. It's the best time to enjoy your meals at outdoor tables along the water in the West Bay or around the Pearl's marina. 

Winter reveals the desert at its best. As daylight fades, the heat releases its hold, the air sharpens, and you can take in the depth of the desert landscape. The Inland Sea is popular for half-day trips, camel rides, and beginner-friendly dune bashing. This should be on your bucket list if you visit Qatar during this season.

For families, winter removes much of the friction that outdoor plans can carry at other times of the year. Kids can enjoy playgrounds and public parks like Aspire or Oxygen park well into the afternoon and stay active. A sunny day at the beach with kids doesn't require tight scheduling or constant adjustments during these months. You arrive, settle in, and enjoy the golden dunes and blue waters at your own pace. 

What to do in Doha during summer

During summer in Qatar, heat and humidity quickly set the tone for the day. Most plans naturally drift indoors into air-conditioned spaces. Fortunately, that's not a compromise, as the country is well-suited to it. 

Places like Villaggio Mall or Place Vendôme are not just about shopping. These are the go-to hubs for walking, eating, and enjoying time. Museums like the National Museum of Qatar or the galleries around Msheireb are also well suited to summer afternoons, with enough space to explore at an unhurried pace. Cafés, restaurants, cinemas, and exhibition spaces are all fully air-conditioned, making it easy to plan long lunches, late dinners, or quiet breaks from the heat without having to rush or rearrange the day.

Still, you don't need to bid farewell to outdoor time. You just need to become more selective. Early mornings and some evenings can work. A short walk along the Doha Corniche, a pause by the water at Katara Cultural Village, or a quick stroll around Lusail Marina Promenade once the sun drops can be surprisingly pleasant. The secret is not to over-plan. During summer, keep it light and flexible. 

There are a few practical upsides to this season. The country has fewer crowds, and hotels often offer better rates. For travellers who value space and flexibility, summer can be a good choice to visit Qatar.
